Dr. Samira F. Kurtoğlu-Öztulum is an Assistant Professor at the Materials Science and Technology Department of Turkish-German University, where she also serves as the Vice Chair of the Department. Additionally, she is a researcher at the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department of Koç University. She completed her BS at the Chemical Engineering Department, Middle East Technical University, Ankara in 2014 and she received her MS and PhD degrees from the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department, Koç University, Istanbul in 2016 and 2021, respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Alper Uzun. She is the recipient of the “Academic Excellence Award” for her MS Thesis, given by the Graduate School of Sciences and Engineering, Koç University. Her research focuses on developing materials for their use as catalysts and adsorbents, characterizing their properties, testing their performance, and understanding the relationship between their structure and function. Her research places a strong emphasis on the valorization of different industrial wastes by transforming them into catalysts and adsorbents.

Research Interest Keywords: Heterogeneous catalysis, supported metal catalysts, atomic dispersion,  X-ray absorption spectroscopy, hydrogen storage, ammonia decomposition, olefin hydrogenation, ionic liquids, ionic liquid/porous material composites, waste valorization, adsorbents for dye removal, industrial waste, clay minerals, red mud, fly ash, steel slag, sepiolite, paper-based composite materials (in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Çağla Söz)
